Quilt Binder Guide

Everything you need to set up your Quilt Binder and bind your first quilt. It takes a few minutes.

1. Attach the base plate

Remove the screw on the right side of your needle plate. Place the base plate over that spot and fasten it with the same screw. Keep it slightly loose for now, so you can still slide and turn the plate.

Holes don't line up on your machine? Use the adhesive strips in the box to stick the base plate straight onto the machine bed instead.

2. Mount the binder and line it up

Fasten the binder onto the base plate with the two small screws, also slightly loose. Adjust the base plate and binder together, so the opening of the binder sits just in front of your presser foot and lines up straight with the feed direction. The needle should land about 1/16 inch from the inner edge of where the binding comes out. When everything lines up, tighten all the screws.

3. Bind your quilt

Cut your binding strips 2 inches wide and trim the end to a point. Feed the point into the wide end of the funnel and pull it through until it comes out folded at the front. Slip your quilt edge into the slot, lower the presser foot and sew slowly for the first few inches. The binder folds the strip over both sides of the quilt edge as you sew.

4. Corners

Corners take a little practice. Watch how it's done:

  1. Sew all the way to the end of the side, add a small backstitch and cut the threads.
  2. Pull the quilt out and fold the binding around the corner to form a mitered corner. A clip helps to hold it in place.
  3. Feed the slack back into the slot of the binder, put the needle down and keep sewing along the next side. A stiletto or pin helps keep the corner from shifting.
